Plagiocephaly Treatments
Plagiocephaly, also known as flat head syndrome, is a condition characterized by an asymmetrical distortion (flattening of one side) of the skull. It is characterized by a flat spot on the back or one side of the head often caused by remaining in a supine position for too long.
These cranial deformities have increased in numbers since the World Health Organization recommended that infants sleep on their backs to avoid SIDS.
Orthotic Solutions is trained and certified on the Orthoamerica Starscanner and Starband Treatment System. The Starscanner is able to capture and reference an infants head shape in a comfortable and non intrusive manner. The system uses four lasers and eight cameras to safely scan the patients head in less than two seconds. The scans are extremely accurate and are used to create a mold for the Starband, which is designed to improve symmetry and proportion for the patient. This method is far superior to traditional casting. The other benefit of this system is the ability to track the progress for each individual case and create the optimum treatment plan for each individual..
